Kelly McMillan (she/her)

I live in Calgary, Alberta, with my husband Mike, our two-year-old daughter Indie, and our beloved labs, Winnie and Nalah! I'm all about spending time outdoors with my family, quality time with loved ones, and indulging in all of the cool coffee drinks I can find.

Despite living far from the ocean, my deep love for it is evident through the giant wave photo that takes up an entire wall in my house! It connects me to my South African roots before immigrating to Canada as a child.

The people who know me best describe me as empathetic, kind, and outgoing. I approach my work as a therapist with a laid-back, gentle, and collaborative demeanor, providing a safe haven for individuals to explore their thoughts and emotions. Together, we navigate challenges, uncover insights, and cultivate resilience in the face of change.

My “Go-To” Therapy Models

I obtained a Social Work Diploma through Red Deer College, and then went on to pursue my Bachelors of Social work at the University of Calgary. After completing my Bachelors of Social Work, I decided to start working in the field and worked alongside the police, and the Crown Prosecutor in supporting victims and children through domestic violence. I then transitioned into mental health and addiction and became an addiction counselor in Okotoks through the mental health clinic, I ran a recovery group, CSST group, and DBT group.

I am currently a mental health clinician and work with moderate-severe mental health concerns. After having my daughter I decided to go back to school and continue my education in obtaining my Masters of Social Work. A lot of my social work experience over the past 8 years has been working in health care under the umbrella of mental health and addictions.

My counselling approach is tailored to each client’s needs and preferences. I am able to provide clients with psychological and practical tools, while supporting their mental health and well-being. I want to help my clients set goals and take the necessary steps to move successfully toward these goals, in order to bring about healing and change. I am equipped to support you in attaining these tools/skills through active listening, maintaining a non-judgmental stance and having a respectful dialogue.
